2018 Midterm Elections and their Expected Impact on Markets
Stephen R. Soukup, Managing Partner/Publisher, The Political Forum
Visible Hand Course Description: The intent is to educate the attendees on the importance of energy production and consumption for the development of a country’s economy. The session will clearly define the current and future global demand for energy and provide an outlook for future supply and the consumptive cost associated with that supply. The session will bring attention to the future inflationary effects that will be realized from the energy sector and how that inflation will affect future retirees. The attendees will gain an understanding of the importance of including a higher than normal inflation factor for energy within the clients financial plans. For additional information see the attached presentation.
2018 Midterm Election Description: The midterm elections will, presumably, impact financial markets in a some very substantive ways. With an expected change in the majority of at least one of the houses of Congress, the entire political atmosphere, which is already quite hot, will all but certainly become hotter. Will the new majority impeach the President of the United States? Will he be removed office? What will be the political ramifications of the effort? And more to the point, how will all of this affect financial markets? The conventional wisdom has it that markets will, most likely, not be affected too dramatically. Divided government precludes too many radical changes to public policy, resulting in “blessed gridlock.” But is this conventional wisdom accurate? And are there historical precedents that suggest other possible outcomes?
