Chris Rigsby and Katie Gray
Greater Kansas City Community Foundation

The Biggest Gift of the New Tax Law

Matt Syverson, CFP
Sound Stewardship

Chris Rigsby is a philanthropic wealth advisor at the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, one of the most well-respected, knowledgeable leaders on charitable giving in the nation. Chris joined the Community Foundation in 2018 and collaborates with financial advisors, wealth managers, accountants, attorneys and other professional advisors to help them make the most of their clients’ charitable dollars.
The Community Foundation was founded on the idea that charitable giving should be the responsibility of many, not just a select few, and invites everyone to become organized and effective philanthropists through charitable giving accounts. With an asset base of more than $3 billion, the Community Foundation ranks among the top 1 percent of community foundations in the country, a position it has held since 1999.
Chris earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and World Business from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Business Administration degree from Baker University. With nearly a decade of experience in the mutual fund industry, most recently working at Ivy Investments as a Regional Sales Specialist, Chris is an expert at creating relationships with professional advisors and encouraging them to incorporate charitable giving into their financial and estate planning strategies.
Chris and his wife, Jessica, have two young daughters, enjoy traveling internationally and spending time with family and friends.

Katie Gray joined the Community Foundation in 2004, and currently serves as senior vice president of finance and foundation services with oversight for all financial operations.
Katie oversees the Community Foundation’s investment program, which offers each donor the opportunity to customize the investments held in their fund by working with a trusted financial advisor of their choice. As part of this work, Katie collaborates with wealth advisors, attorneys and accountants to encourage them to incorporate charitable giving into their financial and estate planning strategies.

In addition, the work that Katie and her team do to provide back-office services for other community foundations across the country is second to none in the charitable industry. In 2017, the team efficiently processed nearly 73,000 transactions.
Katie earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting and business administration with distinction from the University of Kansas. She also earned a certificate in financial planning from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. Prior to joining the Community Foundation, Katie worked in public accounting for KPMG and then gained private sector experience at Aquila, Inc. as a member of their accounting and finance team.
In 2015, Katie was named one of Ingram’s 40 under Forty. In 2017, Katie was named CFO of the Year by the Kansas City Business Journal. Katie and her husband, Walker, have three young children and enjoy attending their baseball games and swim meets.
